Karolina Wiktor explores how to regain the ability to communicate when a previously used language ceases to function. A similar experience, in a sense, accompanies migration. Moving to a new country often means having to relearn language, cultural codes, and ways of communicating. In this process, many people experience a sense of being “a beginner all over again” — much like a child learning about the world from scratch.

During the workshop, participants will create their own emotional maps of migration, using threads, symbols, and visual elements instead of words. The resulting works will be personal cartographies of experiences, showing paths, obstacles, moments of change, and new beginnings.

Workshop inspired by the exhibition Karolina Wiktor. Cartography of Motherhood.

Duration: 3 hours

    Karolina Wiktor. Cartography of Motherhood

How can you communicate with the world when illness renders established forms of communication impossible? How do women with disabilities experience motherhood? How do you become a mother during rehabilitation? What does it mean to ‘regain a voice’ in a world that does not recognise your language?
