This workshop explores abstraction through hands-on experimentation with materials, where intuitive, process-based creation takes center stage. Participants will produce large-scale collage compositions using a variety of papers differing in texture, color, and weight, alongside paint and drawing media.

Throughout the session, participants will combine collage, painting, and drawing techniques, experimenting with layering, texture, and the interplay between chance and intentional composition. Emphasis is placed on the discovery of how diverse materials and creative gestures can coexist within a single work, whether harmonious or deliberately heterogeneous.

The large format of the works encourages freedom of movement, expressive gestures, and a more physical engagement with image-making. Each piece becomes a unique record of process, emotion, and formal exploration. Participants will also have the option to combine their works into a shared collage installation.

Workshop inspired by the exhibition Barbara Kasten. Post-abstraction.

Duration: 3 hours.

    Barbara Kasten. Post-abstraction

Barbara Kasten. Post-abstraction, the first such extensive exhibition of the American artist’s work in this part of Europe, marks a return to the place that helped her shape her artistic language many years ago. The exhibition involves a cross-sectional presentation of 100 works by Barbara Kasten, done in various media: photography, sculpture, and installation, complemented by the artist’s intervention in Zachęta’s stairway.
