In the painting The Hot World, a world different than everything we know is created from a clump of fiery matter. The work emanates energy like a living organism and gives the impression of being the result of natural processes. In this and other canvasses, Tchórzewski experimented with painting materials and colour combinations. He achieved the characteristic effect of wrinkled textures by ‘. . . heating the external layers of the paint, doused with paint thinner. The solvent evaporated more quickly, causing the surface to shrink and congeal into patterned meanders and innervations, drawing a fingerprint-like pattern, a predatorily mobile ornament. Sometimes, the cooling paint cracked, creating picturesque craquelure, nodules, and growths’. Tchórzewski’s works from the 1970s is dominated by a hot, luminous red, with cool purples peeking out from underneath.
