The painting was created for Paweł Susid’s individual exhibition at the Zachęta National Gallery of Art (Paintings at School and at Home, 2006). The exhibition focused on places and symbols that regularly reappeared in the artist’s works, such as broadly defined home existence, or school education in history, geography, biology, and art. The former sphere appears in his paintings as a place of unrestrained intimacy, the latter as a space subject to the rigours of socialisation. Susid calls our attention to matters both important and completely trivial. He creates a record of his own experiences and describes and comments on the world around us. Comments regarding significant political events mingle here with mocking comments about creating paintings in the past and today. Among the self-reflections is the painting Untitled (suuch a gallery invites me, it is nice, I thought, I’ll endulge myself), which is an ironic reference to the symbolic status of the national gallery of art and the accompanying prestige.
