Recurring throughout Rumas’s practice, the themes of shallow religiousness, Catholicism, and national identity are invoked by GOD in My MOTHERLAND Is HONOURED, where the artist has put everyday items representing the system of values dominant in post-1989 Poland into glass jars. The pasteurisation and vacuum sealing of these items carried a symbolic significance, as the artist was getting rid of an emotional attachment to them. This is the work’s second version, modified by the artist; the first one consisted of a plastic hospital lamp and glass jars.
