Inspired by hyperrealism and its use of the photo camera, Korolkiewicz
developed his own style within New Figuration painting. A realistic,
detailed rendition of the world in his works is accompanied by a strange,
eerie mood. Mr. Vivisector was inspired by the artist’s summer stay at
Krystiana Robb-Narbutt’s and Michał Wejroch’s house near Kazimierz
Dolny, a house filled with collectibles sought out by the owners at
markets and fairs. It exemplifies Korolkiewicz’s characteristic style and
motifs: surprising composition, striking juxtapositions of objects, slightly
oversaturated colours more reminiscent of photographic diapositives
than of nature, or the inclusion of a fragmentary self-portrait.
