The Hebrew Sun reflects the linguistic interests of the artist, expressed in the search for a relationship between meaning and gender. On the one hand, these explorations translated into a clarification of his formal language — all his paintings are characterised by simple, linear lines, a balanced and clear composition, and are built on a raw, unprimed canvas using colours whose meaning is strictly defined. To organise his studies, the artist consistently marked the masculine gender with red, the feminine with blue, and the neuter with green. The painting, which is part of a certain series — in addition to Hebrew Moons and works titled The Sun — is another work that asks why concepts and words have different genders in different languages, and whether this fact makes a difference in how people understand them.
