Close-up On… is a series of short video presentations on selected artists and works shown at the Cold Revolution exhibition. The subject of the first film is Ladislav Guderna, and the artist’s work will be discussed by Dr Katarína Bajcurová from the Slovak National Gallery in Bratislava.

Katarína Bajcurová – art historian and curator. Studied art history and theory at the Faculty of Arts, Comenius University in Bratislava, 1976–1980. On accomplishing her PhD there, she worked as a scientific assistant, later as researcher at the Art History Institute of the Slovak Academy of Sciences in Bratislava, 1983–1984. Since 1994, she has worked as the curator of the collection of post-1950 Slovak painting, 1995–1997 as a deputy director, 1999–2009 as general director at the Slovak National Gallery, now as a curator of the modern and contemporary art collection. She specialises in the history of 20th and 21st century Slovak visual art. She published several monographs and has participated in several significant exhibition projects at the Slovak National Gallery, as well as abroad. Currently a member of the Slovak section of the International Association of Art Critics, AICA.

The project is co-financed by the Governments of Czechia, Hungary, Poland and Slovakia through Visegrad Grants from International Visegrad Fund. The mission of the fund is to advance ideas for sustainable regional cooperation in Central Europe:

    Cold Revolution
    Central and Eastern European Societies in Times of Socialist Realism, 1948–1959

    The curators of the exhibition undertake a critical reflection on the changes taking place at that time, illustrating their scale and dynamics using visual material from the fields of painting, photography, film, design and architecture. It includes over 400 works from six countries of the former Eastern Bloc: Poland, Czechoslovakia, East Germany, Bulgaria, Romania and Hungary.
