Contemporary art scene in Lithuania
The lecture of Eglė Juocevičiūtė

From 1988 till our days Lithuanian contemporary art scene went through a dramatically rapid change towards Western standards of contemporary art. Interdisciplinary vs craftsmanship, international recognition vs preserving the identity, institutional critique vs archetypal thinking were the hot topics of the 90s and they formed the self-perception that we experience today. Three generations of Lithuanian contemporary artists worked their way through these issues, adapting new formats according to the ever-changing tendencies.

Eglė Juocevičiūtė — art critic, curator in the Nacionalinė Dailės Galerija in Vilnius and a PhD student in Vilniaus Dailės Akademija and Lietuvos Kultūros Tyrimų Institutas.
