The ‘Poland’ monthly was an influential magazine, published continuously from 1954 to 1990. It’s goal was to promote Poland outside of its borders, both to the East and West, and to show to successes of Polish culture, economy and diplomacy. We can see it as a propaganda or marketing undertaking, which used photography and text to spread the right message. Polands photographers include Zofia Rydet, Eustachy Kossakowsi, Tadeusz Rolke and Irena Jarosińska. The magazine had 16 language versions and three basic editions. The curators of the exhibition (Marta Przybyło and Karolina Puchała-Rojek from the Archaeology of Photography Foundation) designed it like a puzzle, in which specific pieces are finished magazines. “Poland” for export is an opportunity to look at the history of Poland in the second half of the XX century through the lens of photography.
