Adolf Ryszka

Born in 1935, died in 1995.

Between 1953 and 1957, Ryszka attended the State Secondary School of Artistic Techniques in Zakopane led by Antoni Kenar. After graduation he began his studies at the Departament of Sculpture of the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw in the atelier of Jerzy Jarnuszkiewicz. Since 1983, he has headed the Departament of Sculpture at the Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń. He was one of the forerunners of new figuration - a tendency developing in parallel to the new wave in film and literature. References to antiquity, mannerism, surrealism, and existentialism are all present in Ryszka's work. He is the author of monumental and open-air realisations, small-scale sculptures and bronze pieces.
